Rajinikanth’s much-anticipated film Coolie has shown renewed box office strength on its 10th day, earning an estimated ₹9.44 crore in India alone and bringing its total domestic net collection to approximately ₹244.94 crore. This surge on the second Saturday is a positive indicator for the...

Following a strong opening weekend that minted around ₹65 crore on day one and a robust first week with collections touching ₹230 crore, the film had witnessed a dip during weekdays. However, the latest upward trajectory suggests sustained audience interest and word-of-mouth momentum fueling box office growth.

Regional and Language-wise Performance Highlights

Coolie recorded noteworthy occupancy rates in key regional markets on August 23, 2025. Tamil screenings enjoyed about 35.44% occupancy, with major cities like Chennai and Trichy showing strong numbers. Hindi and Telugu versions maintained steady footfalls, with Hindi occupancy hovering around 15.93% and Telugu at approximately 23.53%.

The multilingual film’s widespread appeal across South Indian languages and Hindi has contributed significantly to its commercial success, with international markets like the US, UK, and Australia also reporting record openings for a Tamil film in recent times.

Star Cast and Film Premise Captivate Viewers

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and produced by Sun Pictures, Coolie features Rajinikanth in the lead role as Deva, a former union leader seeking justice against powerful crime operatives. The film’s ensemble includes Nagarjuna Akkineni, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Soubin Shahir, and Bollywood icon Aamir Khan, making his Tamil debut.

Rajinikanth’s charismatic screen presence, coupled with a compelling narrative of justice and revenge, has garnered positive reviews. Critics and audiences alike have praised the film’s energy, dialogue punchlines, and the iconic ‘Swag’ that Rajinikanth brings to the big screen.

Box Office Outlook and Prospects

With Sunday’s collections yet to be tabulated, industry analysts widely expect Coolie to push past the ₹250 crore mark domestically. The film’s performance continues to challenge its competitors at the box office, including Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 and Jr NTR’s RRR.

Producers and distributors are optimistic about Coolie’s overall trajectory, eyeing the ₹500 crore mark worldwide—a benchmark that would position the movie as one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of all time, alongside Rajinikanth’s earlier blockbusters.

Rajinikanth’s Lasting Box Office Magic

As one of Tamil cinema’s most revered actors, Rajinikanth’s films enjoy a massive fanbase that drives premium box office performances. Coolie consolidates his legacy with a blend of mass appeal, narrative strength, and technically polished filmmaking.

The film’s success further bolsters the rise of South Indian cinema on the global stage, as Tamil and Telugu films increasingly dominate box office charts beyond India, signaling a shift in Indian cinema’s global dynamics.
