Breaking Ground, Building Futures: Epiroc’s Nashik Hub Set to Rock the Industry

Swarnadwip Nath Published Aug 27, 2025, 02:48 PM Updated Sep 17, 2026, 05:31 PM

Epiroc AB, the Swedish industrial giant and a global leader in mining and infrastructure equipment, has officially commenced construction of a state-of-the-art production and research & development facility in Nashik, Maharashtra. This strategic expansion marks a significant milestone in Epir...

The new facility, sprawling across approximately 175,000 square meters, is designed to serve as a cutting-edge hub for developing and manufacturing underground and surface equipment tailored for mining and construction industries. It will feature dedicated buildings for production and prototyping, a high-tech R&D laboratory, modern office spaces, and an outdoor equipment test track—making it one of the most comprehensive industrial setups in the region.

According to Helena Hedblom, President and CEO of Epiroc, “The new facility in Nashik is a key step in further expanding our presence in the growing and very important Indian market, and it will also support our customers globally.” Her statement underscores Epiroc’s dual focus: strengthening local capabilities while leveraging India’s strategic position to serve global demand.

The facility is expected to begin operations by Q3 of 2026, with phased development continuing over the next few years. This timeline aligns with Epiroc’s broader global strategy to accelerate innovation and sustainability in mining operations through localized manufacturing and R&D excellence.

Sustainability Meets Productivity

Epiroc’s Nashik expansion is not just about scale—it’s about smarter, greener growth. The facility is being developed with sustainability at its core, supporting India’s “Make in India” initiative and contributing to the transformation of mining into a more environmentally responsible industry. The company aims to integrate energy-efficient systems, waste reduction protocols, and advanced automation technologies to minimize its ecological footprint.

Arunkumar Govindarajan, President of Epiroc India, emphasized the importance of this investment: “We are excited about this further expansion in India, where we see significant growth potential. The new facility also supports our ‘Make in India’ initiatives.” His remarks reflect Epiroc’s long-term vision of aligning with national priorities while delivering world-class solutions.

Job Creation and Local Impact

The Nashik facility is expected to generate approximately 200 new direct jobs, adding to Epiroc’s existing workforce of around 280 in the region. This move will not only boost local employment but also foster skill development in high-tech manufacturing and engineering disciplines.

Epiroc already employs around 1,750 people across India, including a robust and growing R&D team. The company’s recent expansions in Hyderabad—where it inaugurated an enhanced rock drilling tools manufacturing unit and a new innovation center—further demonstrate its commitment to building a strong industrial ecosystem in the country4.

Strategic Vision for India

India’s mining and infrastructure sectors are poised for rapid growth, driven by increasing demand for raw materials, urban development, and digital transformation. Epiroc’s investment in Nashik positions it to capitalize on these trends while contributing to safer, more efficient, and more sustainable operations.

The facility will also serve as a global innovation node, enabling Epiroc to prototype and test new technologies that can be deployed worldwide. This includes advancements in electrification, digitalization, and automation—areas where Epiroc has already made significant strides.

Looking Ahead

With this expansion, Epiroc is not just building a factory—it’s laying the foundation for the future of mining. The Nashik facility will be a beacon of innovation, sustainability, and industrial excellence, reinforcing India’s role as a global manufacturing and R&D powerhouse.

As the construction progresses, stakeholders across the mining and infrastructure sectors will be watching closely. For Epiroc, this is more than a business move—it’s a bold statement of intent.
