Cricket’s Biggest Blockbuster Returns: India vs Pakistan to Headline Asia Cup in Dubai

Swarnadwip Nath Published Aug 03, 2025, 01:26 PM Updated Sep 18, 2026, 08:35 AM

The Asian Cricket Council has officially unveiled a blockbuster schedule for the 2025 Asia Cup, igniting anticipation among fans as India and Pakistan are set to square off multiple times in the United Arab Emirates. As the world's most passionate cricketing derby returns to neutral territory...

Key Takeaways from the Announcement

The Asia Cup 2025 will be played in T20 format from September 9 to 28, hosted across two UAE cities: Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

The highly anticipated group stage clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for September 14 at the Dubai International Stadium.

Both arch-rivals could meet up to three times—once in the group stage, potentially again in the Super Four, and possibly in the grand finale on September 28, also set for Dubai.

Eight teams will participate, divided into two groups: Group A featuring India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman; Group B includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.

India plays their opener against hosts UAE on September 10 in Dubai and face Oman in Abu Dhabi on September 19.

Dubai will host 11 matches (including the final), while Abu Dhabi will stage eight.

Schedule and Fixtures: Highlights

Tournament kicks off September 9 in Abu Dhabi with Afghanistan taking on Hong Kong.

September 14 promises a 'Super Sunday'—India vs Pakistan, high voltage encounter in Dubai, 6 PM local time (7:30 PM IST).

Super Four stage likely to feature another India-Pakistan clash on September 21 in Dubai, if both progress.

The final is scheduled for September 28, once again at the iconic Dubai International Stadium.

Host Dynamics and Format

The tournament is played in T20I format to help teams gear up for the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka slated for 2026.

Matches split nearly evenly between Dubai and Abu Dhabi for player comfort and spectator access.

India-Pakistan Relations: Politics Off the Pitch

Despite political tensions following the Pahalgam attack and India's subsequent military operation, cricketing ties remain intact for global events.

The BCCI has affirmed its participation, ending speculation about a potential boycott and underlining the neutral venue approach agreed upon until 2027 for both nations.

Exclusive Insights: ACC’s Outlook

ACC President Mohsin Naqvi highlighted the UAE's world-class infrastructure and global fan base as reasons for the neutral venue selection, ensuring a festive atmosphere and security for all teams.

Organizers expect massive worldwide viewership, particularly for the India-Pakistan fixtures, with Sony Sports Network holding broadcasting rights and online streaming on Sony LIV.

The Road to the Final: Possible India-Pakistan Triple Clash

The group stage guarantees at least one blockbuster, and with both teams strong contenders, fans could witness as many as three showdowns: group, Super Four, and the trophy decider.

Historically, India and Pakistan have never met in an Asia Cup final—a possible record-breaking moment this year.
