As Mumbai gears up for the auspicious Ganesh Chaturthi festival starting August 27, 2025, the vibrant locality of Dharavi has garnered widespread attention with its extraordinary Ganpati idol unlike any other this year. Crafted with creative brilliance and spiritual symbolism, this Ganpati murti appears to float gracefully on a single lotus stalk, mesmerizing devotees and social media users alike. The viral sensation beautifully illustrates the harmony of tradition blending with innovation, inspiring devotion and awe.

Key Highlights of Dharavi’s Floating Ganpati

The idol is designed as Dharavi Cha Vighnaharta, seated elegantly on a lotus flower that visually levitates solely supported by one lotus stick.
Sculpted by Arun Datte of Krishnal Arts, the piece embodies the spiritual concept of balance and stability amidst life’s challenges.
This creation follows the popularity of a similar “Balance Concept Bappa” from Parel, also by Arun Datte, which featured Lord Ganesha in a tilted posture symbolizing life’s uncertainties.
The unique lotus motif draws attention not only for artistic ingenuity but also as a metaphor for purity, resilience, and spiritual awakening.
The idol has become a viral phenomenon on social media platforms, capturing hearts far beyond Mumbai’s limits.

Artistry and Symbolism Behind the Floating Idol

Arun Datte, the renowned sculptor behind this masterpiece, has skillfully combined faith and art to craft an idol that is visually stunning and deeply meaningful. The single lotus stalk supporting the Ganpati idol signifies unwavering strength and balance, qualities that devotees seek in overcoming obstacles and adversities. The lotus itself has profound significance in Hinduism, symbolizing purity emerging unstained even from muddy waters, paralleling the human spirit’s journey toward enlightenment.

This “balance concept” is a continuation of Arun Datte’s previous works, which integrate philosophical depth into traditional religious iconography, making spirituality accessible and relatable for modern devotees. The Dharavi floating Ganpati thus represents not only the festive spirit of Ganesh Chaturthi but also a message of perseverance and hope during uncertain times.
