Key Highlights at a Glance

• Over 97 million Filipinos online, with 83.8 percent internet penetration

• National Fiber Backbone and satellite networks expanded to reach both urban and remote regions

• Digital National ID adopted by 88 million citizens, streamlining public service delivery

• 20 percent digital growth projected for 2025, with digital economy expected to hit $80–150 billion by 2030

• Ambitious government push targets internet for all public schools by end of 2025

Accelerating Connectivity: Bridging the Digital Divide

The Philippine government, led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and DICT Secretary Henry R. Aguda, is placing digital inclusion at the heart of national development. The launch of the National Fiber Backbone—now spanning six regions—empowers over 17 million Filipinos with faster and more reliable internet. Satellite internet in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas ensures no community is left behind. Public facilities, parks, and transport hubs now offer free Wi-Fi, further narrowing the access gap, while strategic fiber and satellite rollouts are ongoing.

Digital National ID: Gateway to Efficient Government

With 88 million digital national IDs issued, public access to government services has been revolutionized. This single credential enables seamless transactions via the eGovPH Super App, eliminating long queues and bureaucracy even for citizens in rural barangays.

Inclusive Education: Internet for Every School

A critical promise in the 2025 State of the Nation Address is internet for all public schools by year-end. Nearly 12,000 public schools—especially in remote regions—are slated to be equipped with connectivity. Initiatives like one million free SIM cards (25GB monthly data) for teachers and students and Tech4ED Centers that combine digital literacy, device access, and online support help address barriers such as lack of electricity and digital skills.

E-Government Expansion and Cybersecurity

More than 70 percent of government services are now accessible online, riding on reforms such as the E-Government Master Plan, National Broadband Plan, and the Ease of Doing Business Act. These developments promote transparency, citizen-centric governance, and a robust digital ecosystem. To secure this transformation, the National Cybersecurity Plan 2024–2028 and the Center for Artificial Intelligence Research (opened in 2024) work in tandem, ensuring responsible adoption of advanced technology.

Economic Impact: Booming Digital Economy

Fueled by e-commerce, fintech, and bold reforms, the digital sector contributed $35.4 billion or 8.4 percent to GDP in 2023. Growth is on a steep upward curve, with projections showing the digital economy could reach up to $150 billion by 2030. Government programs like the Philippine Development Plan 2023–2028 and regional partnerships (e.g., with South Korea) further reinforce the country’s quest for global competitiveness.

Digital Cities: The Countryside Joins the Revolution

The Digital Cities 2025 program is catalyzing development well beyond Metro Manila. Twenty-five provincial cities are being primed as hubs for IT-BPM, innovation, and entrepreneurship through strategic investment in talent, infrastructure, and incentives. Local ICT Councils foster collaboration among government, businesses, and communities to sustain growth and create resilient digital economies nationwide.

People-Powered Transformation

The administration’s vision, dubbed “Digital Bayanihan,” underscores the vital role of empowered citizens. Investment in digital skills, literacy, and accessibility ensures the transformation is inclusive, putting people and communities at the heart of innovation.

Looking Ahead

As the Philippines rallies behind these initiatives, the digital future promises unprecedented opportunities for economic upliftment, social inclusion, and government transparency. With reforms gathering pace and people-centric programs, the archipelago nation is boldly charting its place among Asia’s digital leaders.
