Key Highlights

Indian rap sensation Divine made a powerful return to the hip hop scene on July 29, 2025, with his much-anticipated single ‘Aag’, released under Gully Gang Records in partnership with Universal Music. This marks Divine’s first new music after a six-month break, during which he immersed himself in artistic reflection and exploration.

The song ‘Aag’ is co-written and co-composed by Divine and Abhijay Sharma, with additional production by Karan Kanchan. It exudes raw emotional intensity and fiery energy, capturing Divine’s signature fierce lyrical style.

The music video, directed by Sasta Acid and John Fredrick Peter Mayne, is notable for its high production values and innovative use of artificial intelligence visual effects, representing one of the most sophisticated AI-enhanced videos in Indian hip hop history. The video metaphorically depicts Mumbai as a living, breathing entity with fire serving as a symbol of resilience and unstoppable spirit.

Divine stated that ‘Aag’ represents more than just a song—it is “fire in every sense,” aiming to capture Mumbai’s chaos and its capacity for revival and transformation. The track symbolizes his own personal and artistic rebirth after an introspective hiatus.

The song has elicited mixed reactions from fans; many praise its energy, boldness, and production quality, while some voice criticism about the lyrical depth and repetitive flow compared to Divine’s earlier works. Despite divided opinions on its musicality, the video’s fiery visuals have been widely admired.

‘Aag’ is now available for streaming on all major digital platforms, positioning itself as a potential new benchmark in the Indian hip hop visual and soundscape. It heralds a new era for Divine, with hints at more releases and possibly a full album planned for later in 2025.

Artistic Evolution and Cultural Significance

Divine, born Vivian Wilson Fernandes, has been a pioneering figure in Indian hip hop since his breakthrough track ‘Mere Gully Mein’ in 2015. His music often reflects life in Mumbai’s chawls, the dreams and struggles of youth, and social realities, earning him a status as a cultural voice for a generation.

‘Aag’ continues this narrative tradition but through a more introspective and artistically experimental lens, incorporating AI-driven visuals that metaphorically express themes of resilience and fiery passion.

The integration of cutting-edge visual technology underlines Divine’s ambition not just as a rapper but as a multimedia storyteller aiming to push Indian hip hop into new creative domains.

Fan and Industry Reception

Fans have actively discussed ‘Aag’ on social media, highlighting Divine’s return with enthusiasm peppered with calls for his classic lyrical complexity. Some fans regard the track as a confident reinvention, while others yearn for the ‘old Divine’ lyricism.

Industry commentators have noted ‘Aag’ as a bold statement aligning with international hip hop trends of blending music with advanced visual art, potentially raising the bar for music videos in India’s independent music space.

The song and its launch have sparked conversations about creative evolution versus fan expectations in the hip hop community.

Looking Ahead

Divine has hinted at additional projects planned for 2025, suggesting ‘Aag’ is the opening salvo of a larger creative phase. This may include further singles or a full album release, reaffirming his position as one of India’s leading hip hop icons.

With his pioneering use of AI and digital artistry in the ‘Aag’ video, Divine may increasingly blend technology and music, setting trends that could influence upcoming Indian musicians.

His return is also timely as Indian hip hop continues gaining mainstream attention, both nationally and internationally, with artists like Divine spearheading this growth.

Conclusion

Divine’s comeback with ‘Aag’ signals a fiery renaissance in Indian hip hop marked by artistic courage and innovative visual storytelling. Combining his raw lyrical prowess with cutting-edge AI visuals, Divine not only reclaims his space in the genre but also pushes creative boundaries for future artists. As ‘Aag’ resonates across streaming platforms and social media, it reinforces Divine’s role as a transformative figure in India’s music landscape, inspiring resilience and innovation through rhythm and fire.
