Key Highlights Unveiled

A pioneering drone entrepreneurship programme has been launched specifically for ex-servicemen across India, aiming to equip them with advanced drone operation skills and support their transition to civilian careers.

The programme is a collaborative effort involving industry leaders like Dhaksha Drones and support from government welfare departments focused on veteran empowerment.

It offers comprehensive training covering theory, hands-on flight experience, regulatory compliance, and entrepreneurship, culminating in certification for commercial drone operation.

Participants receive drones upon completion, alongside guidance on starting drone-based businesses, especially in sectors such as precision agriculture, infrastructure inspection, security, and logistics.

The initiative targets both self-employment avenues and job placements within the booming drone ecosystem, boosting economic opportunities for veterans and Veer Naaris.

Similar programmes elsewhere include BSES’s drone pilot training for Army veterans, highlighting a nationwide trend to integrate ex-military personnel into emerging tech industries.

Bridging Service to Civilian Tech Enterprise

Recognizing the unique discipline, leadership, and technical aptitude ex-servicemen bring, this entrepreneurship development programme leverages drone technology’s expanding applications. In states like Andhra Pradesh, government officials emphasize the potential of drones to revolutionize agriculture through efficient fertiliser and pesticide spraying, and encourage veterans to engage with this modern approach for self-employment and societal benefit.

Training Outline and Certification

The curriculum is designed with intensive 14-day batches focusing on both theoretical modules—covering flight mechanics, payload management, data analysis, and Indian drone regulations—and practical flying sessions. Certified instructors affiliated with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ensure trainees earn the mandatory Remote Pilot Certificate (RPC), which qualifies them for commercial drone operations across India. Training models include advanced drones such as White Hawk and Nakshay.

Entrepreneurship and Business Support

Beyond flying skills, the programme integrates specialized sessions on the regulatory landscape for drone businesses, compliance protocols, and strategies for launching startups in the drone service sector. Trainees are assisted through offline internships, networking, and mentorship to translate skills into viable enterprises. Provision of drones post-training significantly lowers entry barriers, enabling participants to immediately commence commercial operations.

Economic and Social Impact

For veterans often leaving service in their mid-30s with limited civilian job options, this initiative opens pathways to lucrative careers with future-ready technology. By fostering entrepreneurship and employment in high-demand sectors like agriculture tech, infrastructure monitoring, and security surveillance, the programme supports individual economic upliftment while contributing to community welfare and national technology adoption goals.

Government and Industry Collaboration

The programme aligns with India’s broader drone policy easing licensing norms and promoting drone integration in rural and industrial settings. Participation and facilitation by state welfare departments and corporate entities such as Coromandel International illustrate multi-stakeholder commitment to this cause. NGOs like "Sahayog Care For You" partner in coordination, ensuring smooth program implementation and outreach.

Looking Ahead

This drone entrepreneurship initiative represents a significant step in empowering India’s ex-servicemen with futuristic skills and business opportunities. As drone adoption accelerates nationally, such targeted training and support catalyze a capable, civilian-ready drone workforce shaped by the discipline and strategic insight of veterans.
