Hyderabad, April 5, 2025: Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh, highlighted the revolutionary role played by agri startups in his speech at the "Natural and Organic Farmers Summit 2025" held at Shankarpalli near Hyderabad. In his words, agri startups are becoming a lucrative source of livelihood quickly by integrating traditional organic farming with cutting-edge scientific technologies.
Dr. Singh explained how the agriculture start-ups are not only about farming anymore but are leveraging innovations such as drones, soil health cards, and green pest management to maximize productivity and reduce costs. This union of science and technology is enabling farmers to produce more sustainably while safeguarding environmental and human health.
Organic farming, which was previously in the niche space, is slowly gaining momentum in the mainstream as health concerns and health consciousness about the ill effects of chemical pesticides are on the rise. Dr. Singh emphasized the relationship between chemical-laden food and lifestyle diseases like diabetes, fatty liver, and cancer and advocated organic farming as the need of the hour for healthy living.
The Minister also referred to successful initiatives like the Purple Revolution and Aroma Mission, which have encouraged the cultivation of lavender outside of Jammu and Kashmir through scientific interventions. He noted that many agri startups are initiated by individuals who are not formally educated at the higher education level, demonstrating the inclusivity of this sector.
Dr. Singh invited agri-preneurs to join the forthcoming National Startup Expo in Hyderabad on April 22-23, committing support from the government in terms of financial assistance, technical support, and promotion. He ended with the emphasis that agriculture is being transformed into an opportunity hub for new farmers, and it has a big contribution to make in the vision to make India a developed country by 2047.
