Indian women-led tech startups were only funded a meager $1 billion in 2024, posting a steep 25% year-on-year decline, according to Tracxn's latest report. This fall indicates the plight of women entrepreneurs in a prolonged funding winter, despite India having over 7,000 active women-founded startups.
The report indicates that women-founded businesses constitute only 7.5% of all existing startups in India. Although there was record funding of $6.3 billion in 2021, the figures have decreased steadily since then, indicating systemic obstacles and investors' lack of confidence in businesses founded by women. Male-founded startups raised $10.8 billion compared to this.
As International Women's Day approaches, the statistics underscore calls for particular policies and investment initiatives aimed at bridging the gap in gender funding and facilitating women entrepreneurs.
