India’s rail ambitions soared on August 10, 2025, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off three new Vande Bharat Express trains from KSR Railway Station in Bengaluru. The launch not only adds a technological feather to India’s high-speed rail network but also promises to redefine intercity travel for millions of passengers across several regions. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as dignitaries, children, and crowds joined the historic event.

The Vande Bharat Express fleet continues to expand, and today's launch in Bengaluru marks a crucial step in India's vision of modern, efficient, and comfortable rail transportation. PM Modi, accompanied by Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, former CM BS Yediyurappa, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, led the event that set three trains on their maiden journeys. The move demonstrates India's commitment to linking economic, educational, and cultural hubs.

Key Features of the Day’s Launch

Three new routes are now active: Bengaluru–Belagavi, Ajni (Nagpur)–Pune, and Amritsar–Mata Vaishno Devi Katra.

PM Modi personally inaugurated the much-awaited Bengaluru–Belagavi route, with the other two services flagged off virtually.

Vande Bharat services are acclaimed for their rapid speeds, plush amenities, and reduced travel times, bringing world-class comfort to Indian rail passengers.

Fastest Service Yet: Bengaluru–Belagavi

The Bengaluru–Belagavi Vande Bharat Express (service numbers 26751/26752) promises a journey of just 8 hours and 20 minutes across 611km, making it the fastest train between these two cities and shaving almost 1 hour and 20 minutes from prior options. This route connects Bengaluru, India's Silicon City, with Belagavi, renowned for its medical and engineering institutions. By traversing Karnataka’s rich sugarcane belt, the train passes through Dharwad (educational hub), Hubballi (industrial center), Haveri (agricultural base), Davangere (textiles and agriculture), and Tumakuru (industrial and educational growth), thereby weaving together commercial and academic prospects.

Route and Service Details

The Bengaluru–Belagavi line will operate six days a week, except Wednesday, accommodating busy professionals, students, and travelers.

The launch marks Karnataka’s 11th Vande Bharat route, deepening connectivity in the southern state.

Enhanced amenities and faster schedules have been welcomed by regular passengers and local industry representatives.

India’s Longest Vande Bharat: Ajni (Nagpur)–Pune

The new Ajni–Pune service sets records for both length and speed—covering 881km, it is now the longest Vande Bharat route in India and the fastest train serving the Nagpur-Pune corridor. With its 10 stops, this train boosts mobility for Maharashtra’s students, professionals, and business travelers, further unlocking trade and tourism linkages in the region.

Northern Expansion: Amritsar–Mata Vaishno Devi Katra

This northern route not only facilitates pilgrimage but also links two culturally rich cities with swift, efficient travel. By shortening journey times and increasing reliability, the Amritsar–Katra service is set to benefit tourists, pilgrims, and business passengers.

Celebrations and Local Impact

Attendance soared at Bengaluru’s KSR Station, where children enthusiastically greeted the Prime Minister, who took time to interact and pose for photographs. Crowds and officials alike underscored the importance of improved intercity connections, with many noting the anticipated economic boosts, easier commutes, and elevated travel standards now available.

Significance and Forward Vision

These new launches reflect a broader vision for sustainable and inclusive growth through infrastructure modernization. Vande Bharat Express represents Indian innovation in train design, energy efficiency, and passenger comfort. Officials highlighted the clear advantages: reduced journey times, greater safety, and well-appointed train cabins.

Conclusion

With today’s triple launch, India cements its progress toward a future where railways are not just a means of transport, but a catalyst for national development. The energetic inauguration from Bengaluru sets a new benchmark, offering residents and visitors alike a taste of the next era in Indian rail travel. As the trains chart their inaugural runs, the promise of speed, comfort, and connectivity is now a reality for thousands each day.
