Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd, India’s leading player in agricultural and renewable energy solutions, has won a significant ₹135-crore order from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). This contract involves the supply and installation of 5,438 off-grid DC solar photovoltaic water pumping systems across various drought-prone districts in Maharashtra, marking a major step forward in promoting solar-powered irrigation and supporting sustainable farming practices.

Key Highlights of the Solar Pump Order

Order Value: ₹135 crore plus applicable GST, focused on designing, manufacturing, supplying, transporting, installing, testing, and commissioning of solar pumps.
Pump Capacity and Types: The order includes a mix of 3 HP, 5 HP, and 7.5 HP solar pumps tailored to the water requirements of farmers, crop types, and land availability.
Number of Units: The contract covers 5,438 solar pump units to be installed in districts including Buldhana, Akola, Washim, Yavatmal, Amravati, and Wardha—areas known for drought challenges.
Beneficiaries: Small and marginal farmers, particularly those without reliable grid electricity access, stand to gain the most from this sustainable irrigation initiative.
Execution Timeline: The project is planned for completion over the next 6 to 12 months, including operational and maintenance support for farmers for up to five years post-installation.

Strategic and Environmental Significance

This order is part of the Government of India’s prestigious PM-KUSUM (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan) scheme, aimed at reducing farmers’ dependence on conventional electricity sources by promoting affordable solar-powered irrigation solutions. Jain Irrigation’s leadership in this project aligns with its vision of advancing sustainable agriculture and water conservation under the motto “More Crop Per Drop.”

The deployment of these solar pumps addresses multiple challenges: improving farm productivity through reliable water access, reducing carbon emissions by replacing diesel or grid-based pumping, and fostering energy sufficiency in rural Maharashtra. The initiative supports small farmers in drought-hit regions, enhancing overall agricultural resilience.

Company Capabilities and Market Leadership

Jain Irrigation is globally recognized as a pioneer and manufacturer of complete DC solar agri-pump systems, offering vertically integrated products including solar pumps, motors, controllers, and mounting structures—all designed and produced in-house at their Jalgaon manufacturing campus. The company’s extensive expertise allows it to provide high-performance, MNRE-certified solar pumping solutions that deliver superior efficiency and durability.

Having installed over 15,000 solar agri-pumps in India across multiple states so far, Jain Irrigation holds over 50% market share of total solar pump installations in the country to date. Its technology includes wide-ranging solar BLDC, solar AC, and hybrid pump systems catering to various agricultural needs.

Financial and Business Impact

The additional ₹135 crore order significantly adds to Jain Irrigation’s renewable energy portfolio and revenue base. The firm’s successful completion of prior phases, including a ₹103 crore order for 4,180 pumps in the first phase completed in December 2024, demonstrates its capability to manage large-scale government projects effectively.

Jain Irrigation’s Q1 financials for FY 2025-26 showed healthy growth trends, with revenue rising 4.6% year-on-year to ₹1,546 crore and a net profit increase of 3% to ₹14 crore. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) grew 12.8%, reflecting a positive margin trajectory and strong demand in micro-irrigation and solar pump segments.

Looking Ahead

This latest order consolidates Jain Irrigation’s position at the forefront of India’s solar irrigation revolution. The company will continue leveraging its R&D capabilities, manufacturing scale, and after-sales service network to promote solar agriculture solutions nationwide. Its efforts align with sustainable development goals by conserving water, reducing energy costs for farmers, and fostering climate-friendly agriculture.

Conclusion

Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd’s ₹135 crore order for 5,438 solar pumps under the PM-KUSUM scheme represents a landmark advancement in India’s renewable-powered agricultural irrigation. This initiative underscores the company’s technological leadership, commitment to farmer welfare, and alignment with national sustainability priorities—ensuring reliable, clean, and efficient irrigation solutions for thousands of farmers in Maharashtra’s drought-affected districts.
