After a moderately successful theatrical run, Anurag Basu’s ensemble musical drama Metro In Dino is now gearing up for its digital premiere. The film, which released in cinemas on July 4, 2025, will begin streaming on Netflix starting August 29, 2025. A spiritual successor to Basu’s acclaimed 2007 film Life In A Metro, this latest offering explores the emotional complexities of modern relationships across India’s bustling metropolitan cities.

Storyline And Format

- Metro In Dino interweaves the lives of four couples navigating love, heartbreak, and self-discovery in Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru

- The narrative blends youthful romance, middle-aged companionship, and generational conflict, capturing the nuances of intimacy and urban isolation

- Each story unfolds independently yet connects thematically through shared emotional dilemmas and the backdrop of fast-paced city life

- The film’s title pays homage to the iconic song In Dino from Basu’s earlier work, reinforcing its thematic continuity

Cast And Performances

- The film features a star-studded ensemble including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, and Saswata Chatterjee

- Critics praised the performances of Tripathi and Sharma for their portrayal of a middle-aged couple grappling with marital strain

- Aditya Roy Kapur’s charisma and Sara Ali Khan’s youthful energy added freshness to the romantic segments, though some reviews noted uneven chemistry

- The emotional arc involving Fatima Sana Shaikh and Ali Fazal was highlighted for its depth and realism

Music And Cinematic Appeal

- Composed by Pritam, the film’s soundtrack has been a standout element, with several tracks topping streaming charts

- The music complements the emotional tone of each storyline, ranging from melancholic ballads to upbeat romantic numbers

- Cinematography by Abhishek Basu captures the vibrancy and chaos of urban India, while maintaining an intimate focus on character-driven moments

Box Office And Reception

- Produced by T-Series and Anurag Basu Productions, the film was made on a budget of Rs 47 crore

- It earned Rs 53.14 crore in domestic net collections and Rs 6 crore overseas, bringing its total worldwide earnings to approximately Rs 79 crore

- While not a blockbuster, the film was considered a commercial success, recovering its investment and gaining a loyal audience base

OTT Release Details

- Metro In Dino will stream exclusively on Netflix beginning August 29, 2025

- The film will be available in multiple languages to cater to a pan-Indian audience

- Its digital release is expected to expand viewership significantly, especially among younger audiences and fans of Basu’s earlier work

Conclusion

Metro In Dino’s arrival on Netflix marks a new chapter for Anurag Basu’s signature storytelling style—intimate, musical, and emotionally layered. With a rich cast, soulful music, and relatable themes, the film is poised to find renewed appreciation on OTT. Whether you missed it in theatres or wish to revisit its urban love stories, August 29 offers a perfect opportunity to stream this heartfelt drama from the comfort of home.
