Ride Smart, Pay Less: Ola Unveils Bharat Cell, Slashes EV Prices Ahead of Festive Ride

Swarnadwip Nath Published Aug 17, 2025, 09:16 AM Updated Sep 17, 2026, 02:23 PM

In a bold move that signals the rise of indigenous technology and customer-first pricing in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market, Ola Electric has announced significant price cuts on its flagship two-wheelers—the Roadster K (variant: Roadster X+) and the S1 Pro+—following the launch of the company’s homegrown 4680 Bharat Cell. The groundbreaking battery innovation, unveiled at Ola’s Sankalp 2025 event, positions the brand as a global technology contender while passing major cost benefits straight to Indian consumers.

The 4680 Bharat Cell: India’s Powerhouse Battery

At the heart of this shift lies the new Bharat 4680 Cell, developed and manufactured at Ola’s Gigafactory in Tamil Nadu. This advanced lithium-ion cell boasts a 10% higher energy density than previous models, a battery life of around 15 years, and is tailored specifically for Indian riding conditions and climate. The in-house development has allowed Ola to drastically reduce its input and manufacturing costs, making its EVs more accessible than ever.

The 4680 Bharat Cell is more than a mere upgrade; it signals the end of India’s reliance on imported cells, making Ola’s vehicles truly “Make in India” at their core. Environmentalists laud this leap, as locally sourced batteries mean a smaller carbon footprint and enhanced supply chain resilience.

Big Price Drops on Star EVs

With the introduction of the new cell, Ola has officially slashed ex-showroom prices across its top variants as follows:

Ola S1 Pro+: Now priced at ₹1,69,999 (down from ₹1,99,999)—a giant Rs30,000 drop.
Ola Roadster X+: Now priced at ₹1,89,999 (down from ₹2,24,999)—a hefty Rs35,000 drop.
An additional limited-time discount of Rs10,000 is available on both models till August 17, making this the best value window for buyers.

This new pricing disrupts the EV market, making high-performance, long-range electric scooters and bikes accessible to the Indian middle class, students, and daily commuters.

Road Ahead: More Than Just Cheap EVs

Emerging from India’s own technology pipeline, the Bharat Cell doesn’t just make Ola EVs cheaper; it sets a new quality standard and creates a ripple across the entire auto industry. With a maximum manufacturing potential of 5GWh per year, Ola’s facility could soon crank out millions of batteries, supporting not just its own vehicle ambitions but also solar energy units, drones, and other mobility applications.

Founder Bhavish Aggarwal asserts, “The next generation of motor technology does not need rare earths. And your company has already built it.” This declaration embodies Ola’s blend of innovation, independence, and affordable mobility for all.

Customer Wins: Smart Savings, Greener Future

For customers, this landmark means:

Major upfront cost savings without performance compromise
Higher localization supporting the Indian economy and job market
Confidence in long-term battery reliability and reduced lifecycle costs
An evolving suite of smart features and improved safety for every ride

Final Word

With the 4680 Bharat Cell officially powering the S1 Pro+ and Roadster X+, Ola Electric has done more than just deliver a price cut—it’s rebooted the rules of the Indian EV game, setting the stage for tech-driven, homegrown growth. If there was ever a moment to make the switch to electric, this is it.
