Seshasayee Paper and Boards Ltd has approved a capital investment of ₹250 million to set up copier paper conversion facilities at its Erode and Tirunelveli units. The move sharpens the company’s focus on value added paper products, targeting stable, branded copier demand rather than purely commodity paper sales.
The decision signals a strategic shift further up the value chain as the company looks to improve margins and deepen its presence in the office and institutional paper segment. By investing in conversion capacity at existing plants, Seshasayee Paper aims to leverage current infrastructure while adding higher value output.
Strategic Bet On Copier Segment
The approved investment will fund new conversion lines that cut and pack copier sheets from jumbo paper reels at Erode and Tirunelveli. This allows the company to sell finished copier paper directly into retail, office and bulk institutional channels, capturing better pricing compared to selling base paper alone.
Leveraging Existing Mills For Higher Value
Locating the copier conversion facility within the existing units optimises logistics, lowers incremental costs and speeds up go to market. The company can route part of its current paper production into in house conversion, creating a more balanced product mix between commodity grades and branded copier offerings.
Positioning For Steady Demand
Even with digitalisation, copier paper continues to see steady institutional, education and government usage. By building capacity in this segment, Seshasayee Paper is aligning itself with a relatively resilient demand pocket within the broader paper industry, while strengthening its competitive position in southern India.
