The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of alerts across northern and central India as heavy rainfall continues to lash Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and several other states. With cloudburst warnings in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, authorities are urging residents to stay...

Key Developments Across Regions

- Delhi-NCR: Red Alert and Rising Waters

- Intense rainfall drenched the capital early Tuesday, triggering waterlogging in major areas like ITO, Dhaula Kuan, Naraina, and Patel Nagar.

- IMD issued a red alert for the region, forecasting continued heavy showers through August 3.

- Surface winds reached up to 40 km/h, disrupting traffic and prompting airlines like Air India and IndiGo to issue travel advisories.

- Delhi recorded 8 mm of rainfall in the 24-hour period ending 8:30 am Tuesday, with humidity levels at 70 percent and temperatures hovering around 30°C.

- Uttar Pradesh: Torrential Rain Across Districts

- Over 30 districts are under heavy rain alert, including Saharanpur, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Agra, Jhansi, and Lalitpur.

- Eastern UP districts like Gorakhpur and Deoria are also bracing for intense showers.

- Gusty winds up to 40 km/h and a 2–3°C temperature dip are expected in affected zones.

- Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand: Cloudburst Risk and Landslide Threat

- IMD has flagged high-risk zones in Himachal’s Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Shimla, and Una.

- Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Nainital, and Bageshwar are on alert for cloudbursts and flash floods.

- Rescue operations are underway in flood-hit areas, with reports of casualties and missing persons.

- Other States on Alert

- Bihar: Districts like Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Darbhanga are facing rain and lightning warnings.

- Madhya Pradesh: Heavy showers expected in Morena, Bhind, Shivpuri, and Sagar.

- Rajasthan: Cities including Bharatpur, Karauli, and Jhalawar are experiencing flooding and school closures.

- Gujarat & Maharashtra: Rivers are swelling due to persistent monsoon rains, raising flood concerns.

Impact on Daily Life

- Transport Disruptions:

Waterlogged roads in Delhi and surrounding areas have slowed morning commutes. Airlines are advising passengers to allow extra time for airport travel due to delays.

- Safety Measures:

Authorities recommend avoiding low-lying areas, monitoring local advisories, and preparing for emergency evacuations in hilly regions.

- Temperature & Humidity Trends:

Delhi’s minimum temperature dipped slightly below seasonal average, while humidity remains high. Similar patterns are observed across UP and Bihar.

Looking Ahead: What to Expect

- Rainfall is expected to persist across Delhi-NCR and adjoining states until at least August 3.

- IMD forecasts light to moderate rain in most regions, with isolated pockets receiving intense downpours.

- Cloud cover will dominate the skies, keeping temperatures relatively stable but humidity elevated.
