The Manipur farming community is witnessing a timely financial boost as the central government has released Rs 18 crore to nearly 75,000 farmers in the state under the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. This significant tranche of direct income support aims to ease agrarian distress and empower small and marginal farmers, aligning with the government’s broader commitment to sustainable and inclusive agricultural development.

Key Highlights of the 20th PM-KISAN Instalment in Manipur

As part of the 20th instalment, Rs 2,000 was credited directly to the bank accounts of approximately 74,963 eligible farmers in Manipur, totaling a disbursal of around Rs 18 crore.

The PM-KISAN scheme provides total annual support of Rs 6,000 per farmer family, delivered in three equal instalments of Rs 2,000 each, directly through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts.

The 20th instalment nationwide was released on August 2, 2025, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marking continued commitment with over 9.7 crore farmers benefitting and a total fund transfer exceeding Rs 20,500 crore for this round alone.

PM-KISAN aims to alleviate financial burdens for input costs such as seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural needs, ensuring farmers have timely financial resources without dependence on credit.

Completion of Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification remains mandatory for beneficiaries to receive the instalment, which encourages digital transparency and accurate targeting of support.

Impact on Manipur’s Agricultural Community

The infusion of Rs 18 crore offers immediate relief to small and marginal farmers across Manipur, many of whom operate at subsistence levels and face vulnerability due to limited access to formal credit.

By directly crediting instalments into bank accounts, the scheme reduces intermediaries, ensures transparency, and boosts financial inclusion for rural populations.

The PM-KISAN benefit supports diverse agricultural activities in Manipur, spanning rice cultivation, horticulture, and allied sectors, critical for the state’s food security and rural economy.

Farmers’ financial empowerment through such schemes is expected to increase agricultural productivity, improve livelihoods, and reduce migration pressures in the northeastern region.

Administrative and Procedural Notes

Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of farmers updating their Aadhaar details and completing the e-KYC process through the official PM-KISAN portal (pmkisan.gov.in) or mobile app to ensure eligibility and avoid payment delays.

Local agriculture departments and ICAR Manipur Centre have been actively involved in awareness campaigns and support programs during the release of this instalment, coinciding with celebrations of Kisan Divas in the state.

Beneficiary status and payment receipts can be verified online, enabling farmers to track their instalment credits securely and conveniently.

Broader Perspective on PM-KISAN’s Role and Progress

Since inception in 2019, PM-KISAN has emerged as a flagship government initiative transferring over Rs 3.9 lakh crore to millions of farmers, revolutionizing income support in India’s agriculture sector.

The scheme targets small and marginal landholding farmers and excludes income tax payers or government employees, focusing on financially vulnerable groups.

By delivering unconditional cash transfers, PM-KISAN addresses critical issues around fragmented landholdings and fluctuating agrarian incomes, enhancing resilience amid climate and market uncertainties.

The program's emphasis on direct, timely payments and digitized beneficiary management reinforces good governance and efficient public service delivery.

Looking Forward: Pathways to Strengthened Agricultural Welfare

Continued disbursals under subsequent PM-KISAN instalments will be critical in sustaining farmer income and supporting India’s vision of doubling farmers’ incomes by 2025-26.

The government and local agencies are encouraged to further promote financial literacy, adoption of agro-technologies, and diversification to maximize the impact of cash transfers.

Programs like PM-KISAN complement wider agricultural reforms, rural infrastructure development, and market linkages essential for a holistic upliftment of Manipur’s farming ecosystems.

Ensuring seamless integration of PM-KISAN with state-level crop insurance and subsidy schemes could multiply benefits and reduce risk exposure for farmers.

In summary, the recent Rs 18 crore payment to over 75,000 Manipur farmers under the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN signals the central government’s sustained focus on bolstering agrarian livelihoods through direct financial empowerment. This intervention not only supports immediate needs but also enhances the foundation for long-term agricultural growth and rural prosperity in the northeastern state.
