Startups Speak Bharat: Harnessing BharatGPT to Democratize AI in Regional Tongues

Swarnadwip Nath Published Oct 21, 2025, 08:44 PM Updated Sep 16, 2026, 11:53 PM

India’s homegrown BharatGPT AI platform is rapidly becoming the backbone for startups aiming to digitize and localize services in regional languages. Backed by major investments and cutting-edge technology like offline multilingual AI models, BharatGPT is driving inclusive AI adoption across industries and underserved areas.

India’s AI startup scene is witnessing a remarkable surge around BharatGPT, a generative AI platform developed by Bengaluru-based CoRover.ai that supports over a dozen Indian languages and offers text, voice, and video interaction capabilities. BharatGPT is designed specifically to cater to India’s linguistic diversity, advancing the government’s vision of "Make AI in India, Make AI work for India" while ensuring data sovereignty. Its rapid growth is fueling a thriving regional language AI ecosystem, with startups betting big on BharatGPT to build localized conversational AI solutions for enterprises and consumers.

A major innovation within this ecosystem is BharatGPT Mini, India’s first offline-capable multilingual AI model supporting 14 Indian languages, launched at VivaTech 2025 in Paris. This compact model is optimized to perform on low-compute devices without internet connectivity, bringing intelligent AI services to remote and underserved regions in sectors such as healthcare, education, banking, and local governance. BharatGPT Mini’s offline functions enable critical digital inclusion by bridging infrastructure gaps.

The platform’s versatility extends beyond regional languages; BharatGPT incorporates advanced features like custom knowledge base integration, ERP/CRM connectivity, inbuilt payment gateways, Aadhaar-based KYC authentication, and sentiment analysis. Startups leverage these tools to rapidly develop multilingual virtual assistants encompassing voice, chat, video bots, and telephony AI solutions tailored for India’s diverse market needs.

Investment confidence in BharatGPT is strong, exemplified by HDFC Bank’s strategic backing of CoRover.ai. This partnership emphasizes AI tailored to vernacular requirements and pledges to scale BharatGPT’s enterprise adoption across India’s key economic sectors. With over one billion users and 25,000 enterprises relying on CoRover’s solutions, the platform projects explosive growth, predicting up to a fivefold increase in small and medium business adoption by fiscal year 2026.

The BharatGPT ecosystem also aligns with responsible AI principles, focusing on resource efficiency and data privacy while fostering indigenous AI innovation. By lowering barriers with no-code/low-code development platforms, BharatGPT empowers startups and businesses to build state-of-the-art multilingual AI assistants without deep technical expertise, accelerating the democratization of AI technologies in Bharat.

Key developments shaping BharatGPT’s prominence include:

BharatGPT Mini’s launch as India’s pioneering offline multilingual AI model supporting 14 languages.
Strategic investments by leading institutions like HDFC Bank enhancing enterprise-grade AI adoption.
Advanced integration capabilities for payment, KYC, ERP/CRM systems driving diverse use cases.
Growing startup interest and projected fivefold surge in adoption among small and medium enterprises.
Commitment to AI sovereignty, multilingual support, and inclusivity in digital services deployment.

With its deep focus on India’s linguistic spectrum and infrastructural realities, BharatGPT is catalyzing a new chapter for AI in the country—transforming how startups harness localized artificial intelligence to serve millions across Bharat.
