Thar Reimagined, Bolero Reinvented: Mahindra’s NU_IQ SUVs Are Born to Lead

In a bold stride toward redefining the future of mobility, Mahindra & Mahindra has officially unveiled its all-new NU_IQ platform, along with four striking SUV design concepts—Vision.S, Vision.X, Vision.T, and Vision.SXT—at the FREEDOM NU event in Mumbai on August 15, 2025. These concepts mark the beginning of a new era for Mahindra, with production models based on this platform set to hit the roads starting in 20272.

What Is NU_IQ?

The NU_IQ (pronounced “New IQ”) is Mahindra’s next-generation modular architecture designed to underpin a wide range of global C-segment SUVs. It’s engineered to support both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) powertrains, as well as front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations. The platform is versatile enough to accommodate both left-hand-drive and right-hand-drive layouts, making it suitable for international markets.

Key highlights of the NU_IQ platform include:

Class-leading ground clearance: Up to 227mm, surpassing rivals like the Hyundai Creta and even luxury SUVs like the BMW X3.
Commanding seating position: Driver H-point at 350mm and seating height of 1,563mm.
Spacious interiors: 937mm second-row legroom, 1,404mm shoulder room, and 830mm couple distance.
Generous boot space: Up to 644 liters (to roof) and 450 liters (to seatback).
Advanced suspension: Five-link independent rear setup with DAVINCI damper technology—claimed to be a global first.

Meet the Visionaries: Mahindra’s Four SUV Concepts

1. Vision.S

Believed to be the spiritual successor to the Bolero, the Vision.S concept blends rugged utility with modern design. It’s expected to evolve into a new member of the Scorpio family, offering robust off-road capability and spacious interiors.

2. Vision.X

A sub-4-meter SUV concept, the Vision.X is likely to preview the next-gen Mahindra XUV 3XO and XUV400 EV. Compact yet bold, it’s designed for urban agility with futuristic styling and electric-ready architecture.

3. Vision.T

Inspired by the iconic Thar, the Vision.T is an electrified off-roader with boxy proportions, flared wheel arches, and a split grille. It’s expected to feature a dual-motor AWD setup, making it a formidable contender in the electric SUV space.

4. Vision.SXT

A pickup concept that blends rugged practicality with refined aesthetics. Featuring LED headlamps, sculpted cladding, and a flatbed with spare wheels, the Vision.SXT is Mahindra’s answer to modern utility vehicles with EV capability.

Global Ambitions and Market Impact

Mahindra’s SUV market share has surged from 13.4% in Q2 FY21 to 27.3% in Q1 FY26, thanks to successful launches like the Thar ROXX and BE6. The NU_IQ platform is expected to further accelerate this growth by offering premium features at competitive prices, targeting both domestic and international markets.

The platform has been benchmarked against luxury SUVs like the BMW X3, indicating Mahindra’s intent to challenge global players not just in affordability but in engineering excellence. Safety has also been prioritized, with the platform undergoing rigorous testing to meet GNCAP, ANCAP, and Euro NCAP standards.

What’s Next?

While Mahindra hasn’t confirmed exact launch timelines for each model, the first NU_IQ-based SUV is slated for release in 2027. Industry insiders speculate that the Vision.X and Vision.S may be among the first to transition from concept to production, followed by the Vision.T and Vision.SXT.

With its blend of innovation, versatility, and bold design, the NU_IQ platform could be Mahindra’s ticket to global dominance in the SUV segment. Whether you're a fan of rugged off-roaders, sleek urban crossovers, or practical pickups, Mahindra’s future lineup promises something for everyone.
